Review By Lempkee

OK you are a lion, silly? , well no as it actually plays better than a plummer from italy and the lion can actually do alot of strange stuff.

First of all i must say that this is one of the best plattformers ever to grace the AMIGA and the cd32 plattform, only super-duper Frog is better, but this game has more than our beloved frog friend,as here u get to do all sorts of stuff.

The game was first released on A500 ,where it had lower gfx and music quality and then came the a1200 version wich had better gfx ,music and more levels, and then the cd32 version came and we expected a pure a1200 port as we couldnt see any more to be added, we was wrong....

Brian The Lion Cd32 has better music (cdda) more gfx and EVEN MORE levels + a new Puzzle mode wich wasnt in its older versions (a500 and a1200) , the puzzler modes is pretty cool as i didnt expect them at all,its pretty basic but its there and it actually works great.

A few facts about the visuals: First of all this game wanted so much to become a SUPER FAMICOM/Super Nintendo that in the end it beated it in the MODE 7 code and visuals, mode 7 is best know as the texture scaling/rotating method used in several Super Famicom games.

So Reflections (who made this game) used this method to its fullest INGAME and for menu looks, and its well worth a look and might even impress 3d people in theese days.

The gameplay:

Basic plattform game with superb gfx/music and controls + the level design is so easy that even your grandmother can play this, the basics of the game is to help people on your way, but sometimes it can get annoying as u really just want to fly trough all the levels, as if u do that u will get a bonus MENU with 3 optional choices for levels ,wich is a must SEE.

U also have a powerbar function (press button and hold to activate) wich will (grunt?) Give u the option to use several cool special upgrades like "ROAR" (shout to give the enemies a headache) or super speed or higher jumping abilities for a short period.

The level design:

Is made in a brilliant NON LINEAR way ,so u can actuallyplay the game in upto 5 ways (diffrent routes) or u can take all 5 routes in 1 go :D , theese routes are well hidden in tornadoes wich u have to jump into ,so infact even stage 1 has 5 diffrent ways to complete it, tough the first 2 years i only knew of 3 ways. The other stuff ingame is "OFCOURSE" a shop where u can buy thoose SPECIAL upgrades (roar, high jump etc) and theese are well presented to you buy a little cloud wich grabs you when you stand under it.

Final Verdict:
A top notch game, with some amazing gfx and a fluid 50hz scrolling and parallex scrolling/tranceparency and very colorful, great music and a superb playbility, one of the top 10 games ever to grace the CD32.

Same style and quality games on the cd32 is: FLINK (the missadventures of flink) , Superfrog,Fire and Ice.
